The SONO inmate work crew was created on June 23, 2008. The mission of this crew is to utilize inmate labor in order to assist other city agencies in a cooperative effort with the collective goal of keeping our community clean, safe and presentable. Using inmate labor in this capacity, with the highest regards for safety and security is a proven cost saving measure that benefits city agencies, the community and ultimately the taxpayer. Through the work of the SONO work crew, our goal is to make a positive impact on the community of South Norfolk, while minimizing the cost of jobs performed. A well supervised, skilled inmate labor force allows us to accomplish this goal with limited funding. The maintenance of parks, public right-of-ways, and common areas can go along way in transforming the appearance and spirit of a community. We are hopeful that our work will serve as a catalyst for positive change.
