The Senior Support Services Seminar began in 1987 by Sheriff, John R. Newhart and is one of his most proudest sponsorships. The event is to educate seniors of the services and programs available to them in the City of Chesapeake. This event will feature over 50 representatives of the City and Government Agencies, no-profit organizations, heath care providers, and retail businesses. This event comes at no cost to Seniors, paid for by proceeds generated from the Sheriff's Annual Great American Food Fest. The seminar is a 2 day event with 1200 senior citizens in attendance. There are free health screening and many other informative activities for seniors. Health Screening for blood cholesterol and sugar, bone screening hearing and glaucoma will be available to all seniors. Exhibits and Health screening will be at 9:00 AM followed by the opening ceremonies and lunch, which will start promptly at 11:00 AM.
